Erik Loen, PhD

Erik Loen leads the HiTech Frontier for AWS spanning silicon-to-intelligence. The HiTech Frontier serves the HiTech, electronics, semiconductor, and quantum industries with Artificial Intelligence spanning foundation model providers, AI infrastructure, and physical and applied AI. Erik is responsible for leading the U.S. field organization and is the single-threaded leader for the worldwide HiTech industry segment, working with global leaders and markets to help modernize these industries for accelerated growth.

Prior to AWS, Erik spent a decade with Cisco leading a region in their Global Enterprise segment and worked with many Silicon Valley technology and semiconductor companies. Before Cisco, he spent nearly a decade at Juniper and Nortel working with cloud providers, enterprises, and healthcare and public sector markets. Erik began his professional career as a C++ programmer at Micron.

Erik earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Idaho, a Master’s degree in Information Engineering and Management, and a Doctor of Engineering in Engineering Management and Information Systems from SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering. He has participated in executive education at MIT Sloan School of Management, is a member of the Global Semiconductor Alliance, and serves on SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering OREM Advisory Board. Erik chairs the AWS Semiconductor Innovation Community (ASIC), created in 2021 to advance cloud thought leadership in the semiconductor and electronics value chain.
